What does the word ‘yoga’ mean?

The word ‘yoga’ means ‘union’.  It comes from the ancient Sanskrit word ‘yuj’ which means ‘to join’, to bring together into union the various aspects of yourself that were never divided in the first place. Another modern adaptation of this principle is the word holistic, meaning to become whole, or to realize your underlying wholeness.

It is a long and wonderful process that brings us to a state of oneness, unity, acceptance, and love. We begin to love ourselves in all our glory and when we recognize our magnificence, it extends to including a feeling of unity and oneness with those around us. It deepens our connection with those that we already love and care for, and it allows us to gradually experience all humans as our family. Yoga helps us to feel at home with all the species and life forms of this world.
